In total, over 7% of the total schemes listed on the latest HMRC ROPS list are Boal & Co schemes. Indeed if Boal and Co were listed as a separate jurisdiction we would be the 7th largest in terms of number of schemes registered with HMRC.
The two Master Trust schemes, Trafalgar (Gibraltar) and Select (Isle of Man) are essentially two sides of the same coin, with both having the same charging structure and features and differentiated only by their domicile and any nuances that go with their local regulations. Generally speaking all Master Trust QROPS are the same with little to choose between them on fees and features.
Unlike our main competitors Boal and Co are a specialist pension firm which is supported by our actuarial consultancy. As such we are able to provide a level of technical understanding and back-up that is unrivalled. In addition, clients can rest assured that they are investing with a major pensions provider, with a depth of experience that is not matched by anyone else in the international market.
Boal & Co is a diverse international pensions business, responsible as trustee and/or administrator for US$10 billion of pension funds. Some facts and figures about our pensions business:
- We have been providing pension administration and trustee services since 1997
- We are trustee to pension schemes for more than 20 of the world’s top 500 (FT Global 500) companies
- Pension members in over 110 countries
All Boal and Co schemes are able to be switched from one to another (assuming legislation allows) which means that members who initially take out a Trafalgar or Select plan will be able to switch at no charge into one of our more bespoke plans, or even a QROPS in the clients own name and individually registered with HMRC as such.
Investment management can either be self-directed by the member or delegated to an investment manager. Investment can be made into any of the following asset classes:
- Private portfolio bonds, investment bonds and other life assurance policies
- Collective investment funds.
As our schemes are “open-architecture” schemes, insurance bonds and investment funds can generally be selected from any product provider.
Please note that investment in residential property is not permitted in any circumstances because of HMRC regulations applicable to UK tax-relieved pension funds, including QROPS. Loans to members or connected persons are also not permitted.
For avoidance of doubt, Boal & Co does NOT provide investment advice. Responsibility for investment decisions and investment performance rests with the member, or the member’s appointed investment adviser. The value of investments and the income from them can go down as well as up, and may be affected by fluctuations in exchange rates.
